The gigantic museum hosts a variety of permanent and temporary exhibits that serve to both excite and inform the millions of people that flow through each year. Looking past the temporary exhibits, which themselves are quite interesting, there are three permanent exhibits on location that are definitely worth checking out. ### 1. Irma and Paul Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life The Hall of Ocean Life exhibit showcases just how beautiful, dangerous, and exciting the depths of the ocean really is. This hall showcases one of the most mesmerizing exhibits in the entire country: the 94 foot long blue whale model that is suspended from the ceiling! This whale weighs in at over 21,000 pounds and is a faithful recreation of the natural creation. The entire exhibit is nearly 30,000 square feet and it uses every inch to show off over 750 sea creatures. ### 2. The Hayden Planetarium Inside of the Rose Center for Earth and Space is a gigantic sphere that is nearly 90 foot in diameter. This sphere seems to be floating inside of a gigantic glass cube. The upper half of the sphere is the Hayden Planetarium. It is here that visitors can be seated inside of a 429 seat Space theater that is replete with top of the line technology that is used to showcase the stars and space all above and around the Earth. It is a beautiful display that can be quite awe inspiring. ### 3. Arthur Ross Hall of Meteorites This hall is an essential visit for any folks who find themselves drawn to the secrets of the Earth below their feet. The Arthur Ross Hall of Meteorites showcases various minerals and meteorites that help date the very Earth it is located upon. The hall is split into three different sections that discuss the origin of the solar system, what it takes to build planets, and the impacts of meteorites. This third exhibit shows off over 130 different real meteorites.
